Erin Condren - 2013 Life Planner Review

Hello lovelies! Since the year is almost over, I decided to do a review of my 2013 planner for those who are looking to explore other options for the next year. Before we get started, let me just say I consider myself a techy gal, but when it comes to keeping track of things, I prefer to do so on a paper planner. I've tried using the Calendar app included on my iPhone and Macbook Pro, but it's just not for me… Maybe I'm just old-fashioned when it comes to planners.

For 2013, I purchased the Erin Condren Life Planner. I was hesitant at first because it was a lot more pricer ($50) than my other planners, but I rewarded myself with one for getting Straight A's my first semester back in school after so many years (and I've been getting Straight A's ever since. =)). Needless to say, I'm very satisfied with this planner!

Keep in mind that Erin Condren and her team always find ways to improve the planners... If you decide to purchase the 2014 Life Planner, you'll end up with something a little different, but better.

The cover is personalized and laminated! You can include your name, a quote, or whatever you want.

The planner is a little thick.

There are monthly tabs.

It starts off with a space to add Birthday and Anniversary dates.
This obviously helps me keep track of my special dates.

It also has a calendar overview.

Each month has a two-page month spread. There's also a goals & to do list on the side.
- As you can see, I use a lot of stickers and washi tape.
- The washi tape is coded for assignments, midterms, etc. pertaining to different classes.

It also comes with a snap-in page holder which makes the current week more easily accessible.

Now we'll move into the weekly calendar. The days are divided into 3 sections: morning, day, and night.
- I usually fill deadline/due dates/tests in the morning block, things I need to do in the day block, and whatever else in the night block (things I did that day that I want to remember/quotes/random stuff).
- If you're on a diet and/or want to keep track of the things you've eaten throughout the day, one of the blocks would be very useful as well. That's what I did for a couple of months.

There are also goals and to do lists on the side available on most weekly calendar pages.

An example of my weekly calendar in action.

You'll find blank line paper and blank white paper with beautiful designs for notes at the back.

You'll also find stickers!

There is also a pocket that's pretty handy for stickers.

And the very last thing is a plastic pouch pocket. Here, I store:
- some custom labels suited to my planner (extras that came with my order)
- some cute to & from labels for gifts (also extras)

PROS
- plenty of designs to choose from
- very sturdy and great quality
- monthly spread - helps me stay organized and see what my month will look like at a glance
- each day is divided into morning, day, and night
- weekly goals & to do list available in most weekly schedules
- you can use this planner for anything: journal, food tracking, exercise tracking, to dos, deadlines, whatever!

CONS
- this doesn't fit into my everyday purse, so I can't bring it on the go
- spiral gets in the way when I write on Wednesday blocks

*If you are the type of person who likes to write everything down or write long lists... this planner will suit you perfectly!

It's expensive, but I honestly consider it an investment. This planner is something I use on a daily basis to stay on top of school and keep track of things in my personal life. However, since I am graduating in a couple of weeks, I will not purchase the 2014 Life Planner. The only reason why is I no longer need something so spacious. If I ever decide to go back to school for a credential or a master's though... I will purchase one for sure!

As I mentioned before, Erin Condren and her team find ways to improve their planners every year! I highly recommend checking them out if you're looking to invest in a new planner!

  1. I saw this on someone else's blog and thought it would be such a great planner. The price really makes it something to reconsider though since I'm not consistent with using my planners.

  2. Everyone I know that has tried these planners have fallen in love and swear by them! I think that will be what I try in 2015, since I've already been threatened disownment by several friends if I don't. :D I try to do the virtual calendar too, but I just can't do it. I make lists and reminders on my phone and iPad all of the time, but I just can't use it as a planner. I have to write it down and have a physical copy. And it's a total bonus if it's pretty at the same time!
