January Favorites (2014)

Hey beauties, I hope the new year is treating you all well so far!

I haven't done a monthly favorites post in a while... In fact, I don't think I did one last year! I'm thinking about possibly doing a weekly favorites (a great way to stay active, right?), but if that doesn't work out... at least a monthly favorites. Anyway, onto the faves - swatches can be found below:
  1. NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base. This is a deluxe sample size that came with my NARS And God Created the Woman eyeshadow palette. I like that it's effective, yet not too drying to the eyelids.
  2. Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner - Black Ink. I've forgotten how much I love gel liner! It's pigmented, applies smoothly, and long-lasting.
  3. MAC Brule. My staple brow bone highlight.
  4. MAC Naked Lunch. This has been my go-to lid color. It's a pretty champagne peachy pink with a sheen.
  5. MAC Soft Brown. My favorite transition shade to warm up the whole eye look.
  6. MAC Mulled Cider. Unfortunately, this is LE and can probably only be found at a CCO (or ebay at a ridiculous price). It's a beautiful warm brown with hint of plum. I've been using this shadow to darken up the outer-v.
  7. Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow - Birthday Suit. I like to use this on days I'm on a rush, but still want a little something. It's a beautiful shimmery taupe.
  8. Clinique High Impact Curling Mascara. Love! It separates my lashes, holds my curls, lasts all day, and is easily removable with warm water.
  1. Dior Shimmer Powder - Amber Diamond. One of my favorite highlight shades. The powder is so finely milled and makes my skin glow!
  2. MAC Mineralize Blush - Dainty. Dainty was a gift from my mother-in-law and it's actually my first blush ever. It's a soft pink that provides a healthy glow.
  1. Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circles Eraser - Brightener. I bought this product a couple of weeks ago and I got to say... so far, so good!
  2. L'oreal Visible Lift CC - Light. I use this in conjunction with the Maybelline concealer mentioned above.
  3. Sonia Kashuk Concealer Palette - Hidden Agenda 07. I was shopping my stash and found this hidden gem in the back of my makeup drawers. I'm really glad I found it! This palette contains 2 concealers, 1 neutralizer (that I use to cover redness - usually breakouts), and 1 translucent powder. I love that I can mix the shades together to match my skin-tone.

{Review} MAC Face & Body Foundation

Hello beauties! This review has been long waited. I apologize for the delay, but better late than never?
A fluid foundation that provides low-to-medium buildable coverage and a flawless, natural satin-shine finish. Skin conditioning, water-resistant and long-wearing.

PROS
- very natural looking
- buildable
- light on skin
- plastic bottle makes it handy for travel

CONS
- gets very shiny & greasy looking (fellow oilies, beware!)
- transfers

Left: Without F&B  -   Right: With F&B

Face & Body reminds me of a tinted moisturizer, but with a different consistency. It has a watery consistency and provides a light and buildable coverage. However, I've found that it only evens out the skin tone and nothing else.

Overall, I like this product because I prefer a lighter coverage when it comes to foundations. However, I can't see how this foundation would work for me in the summertime seeing that my face looks like an oily mess by the end of the day whenever I have this on. I will admit that I always fail to touchup my makeup throughout the day though, so maybe it wouldn't be so bad if I did so.

Have you guys tried the Face & Body foundation from MAC? How do you like it?

Empties: Old & Recent

Hello lovelies. Here are the things that I've finished over a couple of months:
Dickenson's Witch Hazel Pore Perfecting Toner - For me, a toner is a toner... It's affordable and it works.
{will repurchase in the future}

MAC Fast Response Eye Cream - I always apply this before using any kind of eye primer.
{using backup}

Kirkland Daily Facial Towelettes - This is seriously one of the best makeup remover wipes I've ever used. It's soft, gentle, doesn't dry out my skin, and with the exception of waterproof eyeliner, my eye and face makeup glides off effortlessly with these wipes!
{using backup}

Origins Starting Over Age-Erasing Eye Cream with Mimosa - I liked it at the beginning, but after a while, I didn't find it moisturizing for my under-eyes.
{will NOT repurchase}

Egyptian Magic - I used this because I heard it would be great for my eczema. After I noticed that it didn't do much, I used this product as a face moisturizer. Needless to say, it didn't live up to its hype.
{will NOT repurchase}

Aveeno Positively Radiant Brightening Cleanser - I don't think this cleansed my skin very well... It's probably ok as a morning cleanser when you wake up in the morning, but not at night after your day.
{will NOT repurchase}

Kirkland Daily Facial Towelettes - Same as above.
{using backup}

Boscia Oil-Free Daily Hydration SPF 15 (deluxe sample) - I never got a chance to try this product, but it's been sitting in one of my makeup drawers for over two years. I have no choice now but to toss it.
{will NOT repurchase}

Boscia Skin Perfecting Primer (deluxe sample) - Same as above.
{will NOT repurchase}

Boscia Enlivening Amino- AG Eye Treatment (deluxe sample) - Same as above.
{will NOT repurchase}

Shiseido Revitalizing Essence - This is the only toner I've noticed that has made a difference in my skin.
{will repurchase after I finish off my other toners}

Shiseido Facial Cotten Pads (2) - Best quality cotton pads I've ever used!
{already repurchased}

L'Occitane Dry Skin Hand Cream - Love!
{will repurchase after I finish my backups}

L'Occitane Pivoine Flora Hand Cream - Love!
{will repurchase after I finish my backups}

Clean Moisture-Absorbent Deodorant - Tossed this. It didn't really do anything for me.
{will NOT repurchase}

{Review} LORAC Unzipped Palette

Hello there. I hope all is well! While the blogosphere has been singing praises about the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette, I have been keeping myself occupied with a palette I bought a while back: the LORAC Unzipped palette. I can see from the swatches online that they are nothing alike, but I don't know if I can justify buying another palette at the moment. (EDIT: My husband actually surprised me with the Naked 3 palette over the weekend. This is a scheduled post.). At least most of the shades in this palette lean pink...

Swatches:
- Undercover: a cream color with a satin finish
- Unbelievable: a metallic copper
- Unattainable: a metallic gold
- Unconditional: a cool matte brown
- Unbridled: a dark brown with a sheen

- Undiscovered: a shimmery gold
- Unreal: a metallic peach
- Uncensored: a metallic brown
- Unspoken: a matte warm brown
- Untamed: a dark shimmery brown

PROS
- blends easily
- pigmented

CONS
- cardboard packaging

These eyeshadows are so soft and smooth, they blend easily and beautifully. They are also pigmented with minimal fallout - which is an extra plus on my book. My only gripe about it is the cardboard packaging. I guess if I can travel with the original Naked palette, it's probably fine to travel with this palette... We'll see.

Needless to say, I love this palette! It's a beautiful palette with beautiful shades! Although I pulled it out in hopes that it would calm my lemming for the Naked 3 palette, it did something better: reclaimed my love for this palette.

I highly recommend this palette if you are looking for a new shimmery palette. I don't see it available on Sephora's website anymore, but it's available on Ulta's.

Beauty New Year's Resolutions

Hello beauties! Happy New Year! I hope you all had a great and safe holiday!

I thought I should start the year off with my Beauty New Year's Resolutions:
  1. Downsize my makeup collection. I think I've mentioned this a couple of times already, but I've been so overwhelmed with my makeup collection. My younger sister-in-law has recently gotten into makeup, so I was able to downsize by giving her products from every category (eyes, cheeks, face, and lips). Other than that, I think it's time to go through all my products and get rid of things that doesn't work for me.
  2. Spend less and use more. Ok...We all know that I'm a compulsive shopper! This is a poor habit that I need to work on and I'm embarrassed to admit that I don't use majority of the makeup I own. Heck, I've never hit pan on a powder product before! My goal this year is to stop buying products (not completely, but buy less) and put products in rotation for use.
  3. Update this blog at least once a week. Moving forward, I would like to put in more effort to update my blog. Since I graduated last month, I have more time to test out more products and post reviews! Blogging is one of my favorite hobbies, so I need to make some time for it. =)
And that would be it for my Beauty New Year's Resolutions for this year. Did you make any beauty-related goals? If so, please feel free to share!
